Hi my friends! Meagan Carstensen here. I am Pastor Josh’s wife and momma of three little girls. Josh and I ventured up to the unknown world of the Willamette Valley 10 years ago from the CA redwoods and immediately fell in love with Corvallis. What a joy and honor it is to live in this city and even better get to be a part of NWHills Community Church.
Jesus became real in my life at summer camp going into 6th grade and I have been a fan of camps ever since - and, well, it doesn't hurt that camp is where Josh and I became friends.
I am a big picture girl with a passion to keep my life, as well as groups that I am working with focused on that big picture or what matters most. And nothing gets me more excited than seeing a team or an individual walk in step with God's way of life for them. BEAUTIFUL!
Some other tidbits about me - my favorite thing is to laugh with and have fun with Josh (same with friends too but Josh is my favorite!), and seeing my three girls bloom but I also love a good trail run, early morning coffee dates, anything fun and challenging, and soul level conversations. My kryptonite is being cold (like levels me)! Oh and of course I love Jesus, he is THE BEST, he paves the way and sets the rhythm of my life.
Hi, I'm Martha. I've been at NWH for 42 years. I grew up in a non-Christian home and came to believe in Jesus at 15. I have felt a strong call to serve him since I was 19. My husband, Bill, and I have three sons and seven grandkids and have been married for 48 years. My favorite hobbies are gardening and reading.
When my kids were in high school and college, I found that I wanted more Bible and ministry training so went back to school. I received my MA in pastoral studies, focused on evangelism and women’s ministry. My personal and ministry statement is “Taking Life in Jesus Christ to the Women of the Nations.” In 2000, I started Hope Ministries International. For 20 years, I have traveled internationally sharing the gospel, church planting, and teaching the Bible to women. In 2019, I graduated with my doctorate degree in global evangelism. I love teaching women whenever I get the chance and plan to write a book on female evangelists in the near future.
Tom and I have been attending NW Hills for 44 years. He served on staff until we established Frontline Ministries. We've had the privilege of engaging ministry throughout the US, Canada and many nations. We have two grown children. Joshua and his family live in Washington D.C. Melissa served five years with Christian Veterinary Mission in Mongolia, and now for four years working in villages across NE India.
Having a jewish heritage brought challenges in my faith journey to Jesus. But at sixteen I chose to become a follower of Jesus. My life was dramatically transformed! I love discipling young girls, engaging one-on-one with people, hearing their stories, and making a place for others to come away with Jesus (retreats, small groups). My favorite times are spent being with my grandkids, hanging out with Tom, bogie boarding, gardening, biking, and hiking in the mountains. Black Butte Ranch is my all time most favorite place to vacation in Oregon! My greatest joy in ministry is to companion with others in their journey with Jesus.
Hello ladies! It’s Tara Jones! I’m Pastor Gary’s wife and also known as Lou’s mom! The three of us have lived in Corvallis for a year and a half now and feel as though Oregon is the Pacific wonderland of our dreams! I love doing design and photography, and what better setting than PNW with the mist rising above the hills and mountains? We still pinch ourselves that we live in such a beautiful, green place! More than that, we absolutely love Corvallis and the new friends and family we have here.
My life was changed when I accepted Christ at 19 years old and I have seen God’s faithfulness more and more each year! The way that God pursues me continues to amaze me every day, and I look back to those first months and years following Jesus with such joy - as I do the days at hand and the days ahead! Gary and I served together in college and since then have served in children’s ministry, leading youth, young adults, camp teams, and mission trips. Basically, we just love Jesus and people!
Fun facts about me: I didn’t drink coffee until this year * some of my favorite musicians are James Taylor, Louis Armstrong, and Angus Stone * when I hear music, I often choreograph a dance routine for it in my head * I like hats, flowy dresses, and matching sunglasses with Lou!

The 2021 NWH Women's Spring Retreat will be a one-day retreat focused on growth, encouragement, and connection. We encourage in-person participation, if you are able, but will also have a livestream that will include Zoom breakout groups (please see details below for these modalities).

There will not be childcare provided at this year's retreat. If this is a barrier for you to attend, please reach out to us. We'd like to see if there is anything we can do to help make your participation possible!

Please feel free to invite other ladies in your life to join if interested. This retreat is primarily focused on serving and encouraging the ladies of NWH but we know that there are other women in our lives that may benefit from attending this retreat as well and we welcome them!

This retreat will include opportunities to learn from our incredible speakers, spend time in worship, practice prayer/reflection, enjoy community with other NWH women, and participate in small group discussions!

Stay tuned for more details coming soon! We will be updating the schedule (below) as we get closer to May 15!

What to Expect: Joining In Person

The retreat will be held in the NWH lobby and auditorium! As we look forward to coming together in person, guidelines (at this time) will look similar to a Sunday morning. Please plan to wear a mask and consider the 6 ft. social distancing recommendation. If any changes are made we will update them here, as we try to follow the state recommendations.

When you arrive:

We recommend ladies to arrive at 8:00 am for check in and an opportunity to connect with other NWH women over a light breakfast and cup of coffee/tea. Take this opportunity to reconnect and catch up or meet someone new! Our worship and teaching will begin at 9:00 am but don't miss this opportunity to fellowship with other women of NWH!

Lunch & Resources:

We will be catering lunch from a local sandwich shop. If you choose to register to receive a boxed lunch, you will have the option of choosing your protein and beverage. All boxed lunches will come with a bag of chips.

Those attending in person are also welcome to bring their own lunch! We recommend this if you have any major dietary restrictions as the boxed lunches will not be customizable.

When you check in, you will receive retreat resources and a little gift for attending!

Small Groups:

In-person small groups will breakout during small group times. Small group sizes will range between 6-8 women, led by a small group facilitator.

If you are interested in facilitating a small group, there is an opportunity to highlight volunteer interests in the registration as well. We will provide some helpful resources and questions for the group time to assist you.

What to Expect: Joining via Livestream

Similar to a Sunday morning, we will be livestreaming the large group portions of this year's retreat. We know that joining from your home can be difficult in terms of having community with other women so we will be using Zoom to host small group time and provide opportunities to socialize, even from the comfort of your own living room. Join fellow ladies, who are also participating in the livestream, and connect with one another.

When you arrive:

Prior to the start of the livestream, we encourage those joining online to participate in our open Connection Room via Zoom. We will share the direct link to this room in final retreat reminders. Bring your cup of coffee and catch up with ladies prior to the start of the livestream.

Lunch & Resources:

Lunch will not be provided for online attendees but we will have an opportunity for you to pick up retreat resources from the NWH office prior to May 15. We also have a little gift for you! Please watch for email communications regarding pick up times when those resources are available!

Small Groups:

Small groups will be organized prior to the retreat. Online small groups will be held via Zoom and will range between 4-6 women, led by a small group facilitator.

If you are interested in facilitating a small group via Zoom, there is an opportunity to highlight volunteer interests in the registration as well. We will provide some helpful resources and questions for the group time to assist you.

Schedule will be updated with the final version as we approach May 15.
